Mercedes Schlapp doesn't have an easy gig as the White House strategic communications adviser. In her role as the White House's Strategist Communications Advisor Mercedes Schlapp is faced with multiple challenges. The president is his own communications director. The issue came up in March when she gained a sudden burst attention, when it became it was announced that she would be considered a possible candidate to take over Hope Hicks's position as director of communication. It is a job that can be challenging because she works with the president who acts as his director of communications. There are also multiple legal cases which can disrupt the strategy of an administration's communication as well as Cabinet secretaries who are embroiled in their personal controversies. Schlapp has never strayed from her goals, and she collaborated closely in conjunction with White House policy and political teams. The focus has been on issues like school safety, opioids, infrastructure, and trade. Schlapp doesn't deal with reporters frequently in her current job. But, back in March, her name was rumored as a candidate to succeed Hope Hicks at the Communications Director job. The battle has been bitter. Schlapp allied with Tony Sayegh who was also an aspirant. They began sparring in media. Schlapp stated that, after that the Washington Examiner had published an article that had negative reviews of Sayegh's character, she called Sayegh to have a private discussion.
